Our original goal and the thing we strive for in the creation of each of our magazines is to help foster connection in the communities we serve. It used to be that neighbors would visit with neighbors as they sat on the porch in a rocking chair or walking by, this social sphere kept communities in the know and connected one to another. Today even as we go about town we are looking down at our phones and avoiding eye contact (I'm no different). When we moved to North Ogden from Las Vegas, we felt like outsiders. We felt like no one knew us and we didn't know them or anything about our town. Today we are so excited when we hear, over and over, how our magazines have made new comers feel at home, because they are able to know what is happening in the city as well as hear of stories of local history and current events. Long time residents love the magazines too. It is a great way to connect with the community and to be part of something good and positive in a crazy world. We are also able to connect with what we believe is a natural human instinct which is to create. We all have different talents and we can all create on different levels. I grew up in a home where I believed that if my mom wasn't actively engaged in creating something she would have burst. She was incredibly creative and brave. She taught me to "Fake it till I make it." She taught me by example as well. When she didn't have the money for me to buy a corsage for an upcoming dance, she figured out how to make one herself. Eventually all of my friends would buy corsages from her because they were so much cooler that the regular flower store and less $. Her example and our goal of creating connection are what inspire us everyday. They are also what inspired our mission. Create, Connect, Inspire. This mission is what inspired us to start our two annual contests. We host a annual Photo Contest and an annual Art Contest. This year we had 248 unique photographs and 124 unique art pieces submitted to our contests across our platforms. In all there were over 12,000 votes cast for these unique photographs and art pieces. We are honored to highlight the talents of the members of our communities. Watch the video below to hear some of the amazing stories of connection we have experienced in our own lives because of our publications. Also we hope you will consider investing in our crowd funding campaign. We are the top fundraiser on the Mr Crowd website so far so thank you to all who have contributed! We have raised about $76,000 in total with almost $8,000 on Mr Crowd. Our goal is to get the Mr. Crowd fund to over $50,000 by the end of the year.
